Houseplants & Other Indoor Spraying If you find the signs of insect attack on your house plants, you need to apply the proper spray material. Other insects, such as ants, fleas, silverfish, spiders or roaches...which can show up in any part of the house...also indicate a need for control. Although in some cases you may need to seek professional help, most do-it-yourself pest control is not all that difficult and could result in substantial savings. Begin your indoor control by cleaning areas where insects appear. For example, flour or sugar spilled in a cabinet could attract insects. Dampness can also lead to insect infestations. For example, if you find carpenter ants inside (large, black ants), it's a good bet there's a water leak somewhere that's causing dampness near where you find them. Indoor pest control helps prevent: Aphids, cyclamen mites, mealy bugs, millipedes, scales, spider mites, white flies, roaches, ants, spiders, fleas, silverfish, water bugs, etc. Spray materials: Pyrethrum and malathion. Check with your University Extension Service or other experts before using. Sprayer to use: For house plants, use a Hudson hand sprayer such as the 18-oz Misty® or 32-oz Cloud®. These are modern-day, all-poly versions of the famous "flit gun" and they produce a very fine mist ideal for plants. The 2-liter Handy® sprayer is also ideal. For other indoor pest control, Hudson provides several 1/2- and 1-gallon models that will work very well. Hudson hand sprayers are ideal for inside, porch or patio use!
